Geez, screw the collectibles, let's just buy some eBay shares....

Expanding services, foreign growth, and ever-expanding popularity earn the online auction giant S&P's top rating of 5 STARS, or buy

From its humble beginnings as an Internet auctioneer mainly for collectible items like PEZ dispensers and Beanie Babies, eBay (EBAY; recent price, $69) has evolved into the world's largest online marketplace. Standard & Poor's Equity Research believes its shares represent a compelling investment opportunity, based upon eBay's leadership in what we consider the attractive areas of Internet auctions, retail and payments, and its proven ability to expand into new categories, geographies, and services. Now here's some action... specifically Big Little Books

I f you collect what you love -- and Don Wirfs does -- you try not to get depressed when the market is.

Wirfs has been giving it the ol' college try for the better part of five years. Every four months, he would load up a table at the Antique and Collectible Show with Big Little Books . . . and wince as the throngs at the Expo Center welcomed him back with a yawn. "
...and I remember Steve Geppi when I was a kid... lol
USATODAY.com - For many, eBay is the way: "So what should you sell on eBay?
Fred and Becky Hussong of Cape Coral, Fla., have settled on mostly software products, some they write themselves and others they buy from eBay wholesalers and liquidators.
'We haven't found the miracle that would make us millionaires overnight,' Fred Hussong said, but they are eBay 'power sellers' with sales hovering around $10,000 a month. Last month, they did $12,000. "

Phil White has some great reports for fishing tackle collectors on his site at
Fishing Stuff - eBay Report: - February 2004
"As most of you already know, Boxes Are Big! And I don't mean in size. Some of the prices are gigantic!"
I love that quote...
Let's start off with this:

Old fishing stuff used to be just that. Now to many people, it looks like dollars.

eBay and Online Auction Tracking
Let's track what's hot in the collectible market.

There seems to be some dissatisfaction on the eBay discussion forums with the current "What's Hot" reports. People are having problems finding it, and when they do, they're being stymied by the PDF format of the current reports. Not to mention, that the reports are 2 months behind.

Understandable, given that eBay seems to be holding their data close to their chest. After all, it's a marketable commodity that they are going to be selling as a price guide for, well, anything that you can conceivably sell in an auction (or anywhere else for that matter). Alliances with Microsoft are ringing in the air....

The Ultimate Price Guide - What's Hot?

Granted, it will be hard to put a finger on everything hot in the collectibles market, but I hope to open the window just a tad by aggregating content that I find interesting, and hopefully you might also....

Let the game begin.
